Harlow Snow, Essex UK, 2013
Shane and I finalized the booking for our summer together yesterday. It's not as long as last year's visit, but it will be monumental and delightful none-the-less. I won't be taking any trips to France or Ireland or Wales this time, but that's OK, there's always next time.
I'm REALLY excited about this trip for a variety of reasons. First and foremost, though, is seeing Shane. I have missed him tremendously and 9 months away from each other is never easy. I'm "chuffed to bits" about our upcoming time together.
The second reason I'm so excited is because I'm going to start marketing myself in the UK! We've already begun the planning discussions. It is my hope to one day permeate the UK market and bring our American-isms of photography into the common culture of England. There are TONS of photographers out there in the big ol' world, but what we see photographers doing in America as common, isn't quite as common in England. There's a market to be tapped, and it is my hope to be involved in that niche someday.
Thirdly, I absolutely MISS the culture in England. Honestly, I do understand why Americans drive everywhere (particularly Texans) - we live in a massive country. Texas alone is larger than the entire United Kingdom! It is refreshing to me to be able to walk everywhere that I need to go, and if I can't walk there, hop on the train. One of our daily or every-other-day(ly) routines is to plan out our meals for a few days and then go grocery shopping. Sounds so cliche, and I'm certain that that is done in NYC and other compact metropolitan cities in the US, but to me it is still a novelty and one of the things that I enjoy doing with Shane.
Finally - and not at all the least of my excitements - is exploring and re-exploring London and Essex with my camera (and upgraded equipment) in tow. As my close friends and family already know, I've taken loads of pictures of London and Harlow every time I've gone. This time, however, I'm a little more educated and knowledgeable about my craft. I am SUPER excited to see how my photographs of these places has changed and how I have grown as a photographer. I also plan to practice my street photography a bit more.
It's supposed to be even warmer for even longer this summer than it was last summer, but don't worry, I'll still be one of the few Americans who ends the summer WHITER than when it started!
These keynotes = make my heart happy!
